WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature called voice message transcripts, allowing users to convert voice messages into text for easier reading. This feature is designed to help users stay connected during situations where listening to voice notes might not be feasible, like when you’re on the move or in a noisy environment.
The feature is being gradually introduced globally, starting with a select number of languages, with plans to expand to more languages in the future. WhatsApp explained that while voice messages offer a personal touch, there are times when it’s not practical to listen to them. Voice message transcripts address this issue by allowing users to read the content instead.
The transcripts are generated directly on the user’s device, ensuring that no one else, including WhatsApp, can access or listen to the personal messages. To use the feature, users can navigate to Settings, then Chats, and enable Voice message transcripts. You can easily switch the feature on or off and select the language for the transcript.
To transcribe a voice message, simply long-press the message and tap on “transcribe.” WhatsApp expressed excitement about enhancing this experience, with more improvements to come.
In addition to the voice message transcripts, WhatsApp recently introduced the Message Drafts feature. This allows users to save unfinished messages by marking them with a “Draft” label and placing them at the top of the chat list, ensuring they can easily find and finish composing their messages later.
