Google is reportedly developing advanced AI technology capable of independently operating web browsers for tasks like online shopping and conducting research, according to a report from The Information. This innovative project, internally referred to as Project Jarvis, is expected to debut as early as December. It will be launched alongside Google’s highly anticipated flagship large language model, Gemini.

In a parallel move, OpenAI, backed by Microsoft, has also been advancing similar capabilities. In July, Reuters revealed OpenAI’s work on a “computer-using agent” (CUA), a tool designed to autonomously perform research by navigating the web and acting on its findings. Building on this concept, both Anthropic and Google are reportedly exploring software that interacts directly with users’ computers or browsers, aiming to push the boundaries of AI’s functional autonomy.

As of now, Google has not provided any official comments on these developments.
