India Sets Records Ablaze in Johannesburg with Commanding T20I Victory
Johannesburg witnessed a cricketing spectacle as Team India demolished South Africa with a massive 134-run victory in the 4th T20I, securing a 3-1 series win. The match turned into a festival of runs, with Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma delivering record-breaking performances that redefined T20I standards.
Batting first, India posted a colossal 283/1, the fifth-highest total in men’s T20Is. Samson and Tilak’s blistering centuries powered this monumental score, forming an unbeaten 210-run partnership for the second wicket — the first-ever double-century stand for India in T20Is. This remarkable feat also made them just the third pair in men’s T20Is to hit hundreds in the same innings, joining the ranks of Czech Republic’s Sabawoon Davizi and Dylan Steyn, and Japan’s Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming and Lachlan Yamamoto-Lake.
India’s total also marked the highest T20 score ever achieved in South Africa, surpassing the 271/3 set by Titans against Knights in 2022. Additionally, India smashed 23 sixes during their innings, tying for the third-highest number in a men’s T20I match, with Zimbabwe holding the record at 27 sixes.
Abhishek Sharma’s quick-fire 36 added to the carnage, while skipper Suryakumar Yadav’s leadership guided the team to yet another commanding victory.
India now holds the record for the most 250-plus totals in T20Is, with three such scores, ahead of teams like the Czech Republic, Japan, and Zimbabwe, who have two each.
The Wanderers Stadium stood witness to a breathtaking display of power hitting, leaving South Africa reeling and cricket fans enthralled by a historic night in Johannesburg.
