The Indian Premier League (IPL) is gearing up for its much-anticipated auction, which will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, during the last week of November. The announcement has sparked considerable excitement in the cricketing world, with sources from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirming the news on November 4, 2024.

A BCCI official, speaking on condition of anonymity, shared with PTI, “The IPL auctions are set to be held in Riyadh, and the franchises have already been informed. The auction will likely take place on November 24 and 25.”

This year’s auction is expected to be especially exciting, with high-profile Indian cricketers such as Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Arshdeep Singh among the marquee players to be auctioned. These star players are set to attract significant attention, making the auction even more competitive.

The ten IPL franchises will collectively have a purse of approximately ₹641.5 crore to bid for 204 available slots, including 70 allocated for overseas players. Currently, 46 players have already been retained, with teams spending a total of ₹558.5 crore. This sets the stage for a fierce bidding war, as teams look to bolster their squads and secure the best talent available for the upcoming season. The auction in Riyadh promises to be a high-stakes event, with franchises aiming to gain an edge over their competitors ahead of the 2025 IPL season.
