US Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, is embarking on a multi-nation tour across the Indo-Pacific region, including India, to bolster diplomatic ties, enhance security cooperation, and foster strategic communication in alignment with President Donald Trump’s foreign policy agenda.

Announcing her trip on X, Gabbard revealed that her first stop would be Honolulu, Hawaii, where she will engage with intelligence community (IC) partners and US Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) officials. Her itinerary includes visits to Japan, Thailand, and India, with a brief transit in France before returning to Washington, DC.

“As someone who grew up in the Pacific, this region holds personal and strategic importance for me. My goal is to strengthen relationships, deepen understanding, and ensure open dialogue in pursuit of President Trump’s vision for peace, freedom, and prosperity,” Gabbard posted on X.

Gabbard’s visit to India is the first by a high-ranking White House official under the Trump administration. It comes on the heels of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to the US in February, where he met with Gabbard and commended her steadfast commitment to strengthening India-US ties.

During their discussions, PM Modi and Gabbard emphasized the importance of bolstering intelligence cooperation, particularly in counterterrorism, cybersecurity, and addressing evolving security threats. They also exchanged perspectives on regional and global stability, reinforcing their shared dedication to upholding a rules-based international order.

Gabbard’s Senate confirmation as Director of National Intelligence was secured with a 52-48 vote, despite initial opposition due to her previous remarks on Russia, meetings with former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and past advocacy for whistleblower Edward Snowden. While most Republican senators supported her nomination, Senator Mitch McConnell cast the lone GOP dissenting vote.

Following their meeting, PM Modi took to X to recognize Gabbard’s consistent support for India-US relations. He wrote, “Met USA’s Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, in Washington DC. Congratulated her on her confirmation. Discussed various aspects of the India-USA friendship, of which she has always been a strong advocate.”

Gabbard reciprocated the sentiment, calling it an “honor” to welcome PM Modi and reaffirming her dedication to strengthening US-India relations.
