PM Modi Applauds Ramayan Performance in Brazil
Rio de Janeiro:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a captivating presentation of the Ramayan in Brazil on Tuesday and expressed admiration for the performance.
Sharing his thoughts on social media platform X, PM Modi said, “Met Jonas Masetti and his team. I had mentioned him during one of the #MannKiBaat programmes for his passion towards Vedanta and the Gita.”
The Prime Minister lauded the effort, stating, “His team presented glimpses of the Ramayan in Sanskrit. It is commendable how Indian culture is making an impact all over the world.”
The Ramayan was performed by students of Vishwa Vidya Gurukulam, a Brazilian institution dedicated to promoting Vedanta and Sanskrit.
Jonas Masetti, also known as Acharya Vishwanath and the founder of Vishwa Vidya Gurukulam, welcomed PM Modi with a recitation of a Sanskrit mantra.
Speaking to ANI, Masetti highlighted the spiritual significance of the Ramayan, saying, “Ramayan is a tribute to Dharm. Ram represents Dharm, and performing Ramayan and engaging with Ram Katha is a way to purify ourselves and embrace a better way of living. It took us six years to prepare, and initially, we were nervous and emotional because it meant so much to us.”
He noted that PM Modi was deeply moved by the performance and encouraged Indian youth to reconnect with their cultural roots.
“I’m very glad he could witness this. I feel sad when I hear that Indian youth are losing interest in the Vedic tradition. I want to tell them that the ways of the West, which they might find appealing, can often feel hollow. Embrace the richness of your own culture,” Masetti added.
PM Modi, who is on a three-nation tour, attended the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Brazil, engaging in various discussions and cultural events. The Prime Minister praised the diverse cultural performances during his visit, emphasizing the depth and global reach of Indian traditions.
