Devotees Attacked by Suspected Khalistani Extremists at Hindu Temple in Brampton, Canada

On Sunday, a group of individuals reportedly associated with Khalistani extremism launched an attack on worshippers at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton, Canada. Social media videos show men waving Khalistani flags while violently assaulting people outside the temple with sticks.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned the violence, calling it “unacceptable.” Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown expressed his intent to introduce a motion to the City Council aimed at banning protests at places of worship. “Places of worship should be safe spaces free from violence and intimidation,” Brown said on social media, noting he had asked the City solicitor to assess the legal framework for such a bylaw ahead of the next City Council meeting.

Member of Parliament Chandra Arya denounced the attack, saying that Khalistani extremists had crossed a “red line.” Sharing footage of the assault, Arya raised concerns about the growing influence of Khalistani extremism in Canada, commenting, “There is a kernel of truth to reports suggesting that Khalistani elements have infiltrated our law enforcement agencies.” He urged Hindu-Canadians to assert their rights and hold political leaders accountable for ensuring the safety of their community.

Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre also condemned the attack, emphasizing that all Canadians should be able to practice their religion peacefully.

In response to this incident and a recent spate of Hindu temple vandalism in Canada, Peel Regional Police characterized the event as a “protest,” but confirmed they would investigate any violent or unlawful actions. The police have increased their presence to monitor and address any further disturbances.
