In a tragic incident in County Carlow, southern Ireland, two Indian students lost their lives, and two others were seriously injured when their car crashed into a tree. The victims, identified as Cherekuri Suresh Chowdary and Chithoori Bhargav, both in their 20s, were pronounced dead at the scene following the fatal collision on Friday.
Superintendent Anthony Farrell from the Carlow garda station reported that the students were traveling in a black Audi A6 when it veered off the road and hit a tree in Graiguenaspiddoge. The car had been traveling from the Mount Leinster area, passing through Fenagh, on its way to Carlow. Farrell expressed condolences, noting that the students were part of the Indian community in Carlow town.
The two other passengers, a man and a woman, also in their 20s, were rushed to St. Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny for treatment. The four friends had recently completed their studies at South East Technological University (SETU) in Carlow. One of the survivors was reportedly employed at the local pharmaceutical company, MSD.
In response to the tragedy, a family friend, Venkat Vuppala, launched a fundraiser to cover funeral costs. Within 24 hours, over 25,000 Euros were raised. Vuppala wrote in an online post, “We are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Bhargav Chitturi and Suresh Cherukuri. This tragedy, which occurred on January 31, has left their families heartbroken. We seek to unite in support of their families during this difficult time, helping with funeral costs and other financial challenges.”
The Indian Embassy in Dublin also extended its condolences, assuring that assistance would be provided to the injured individuals.
