On Monday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized to a senior Israeli official that Israel’s efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza must result in tangible improvements. This message followed a letter sent by Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on October 13, which outlined the specific steps Israel needed to take to address the worsening humanitarian situation amid ongoing conflict. The U.S. gave Israel 30 days to take action, with the results on the ground expected to show whether these actions met the necessary criteria.

During the meeting, Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer updated Blinken on Israel’s efforts, including operational adjustments by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Blinken stressed the need for these measures to translate into meaningful improvements, especially regarding the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

However, international aid organizations have expressed concern, criticizing Israel for not meeting U.S. demands and claiming that its military actions have worsened the humanitarian crisis. Ongoing military operations in northern Gaza have caused widespread displacement and have surrounded hospitals and shelters, actions that Israel states are necessary to disrupt Hamas operations.
