Maharashtra Elections 2024: Polling Set for November 20 in Single Phase, Results Three Days Later

With nominations now closed, the seat-sharing arrangements in both the ruling Mahayuti alliance and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) are confirmed. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will contest the most seats, fielding 148 candidates, while the Congress will run in 103 seats.

Seat Allocation in Mahayuti:
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena has fielded 80 candidates, while Deputy CM Ajit Pawar’s NCP has put forward 53 candidates for the 288-seat Maharashtra assembly. Five seats have been assigned to other Mahayuti allies, with decisions pending on two segments.

Seat Allocation in MVA:
In the opposition MVA, Congress is contesting 103 seats, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) has fielded 89 candidates, and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) has nominated 87 candidates. Six seats have been reserved for other MVA allies, with three constituencies yet to be finalized.

Candidates in the Fray:
Nearly 8,000 candidates from both the ruling and opposition parties have submitted nominations. A total of 7,995 candidates filed 10,905 nominations, as per the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).

The nomination process, which began on October 22, concluded on October 29, with verification on October 30 and the deadline for withdrawals set for November 4 by 3 p.m.
