The BJP has decisively outperformed Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the fiercely contested Delhi Assembly elections and is poised for a landslide victory. AAP’s crushing setback is highlighted by the defeat of its key leaders, including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia. Meanwhile, the Congress continues its losing streak in the capital, failing to secure a single seat for the third consecutive election in the 70-member assembly.

Parvesh Sahib Singh, who defeated Arvind Kejriwal, has emerged as a strong contender for the chief ministerial post within the BJP. On the other hand, Atishi clinched victory from the Kalkaji constituency, while Manish Sisodia suffered defeat in Jangpura.

Most exit polls had forecasted a BJP victory alongside its allies. The single-phase elections held on February 5 witnessed a voter turnout of 60.54%. Throughout the campaign, the BJP aggressively targeted AAP on multiple fronts, including pollution in the Yamuna River, corruption allegations tied to the liquor policy cases against Kejriwal and Sisodia, and the significant expenditure on the renovation of Kejriwal’s official residence during the Covid-19 pandemic.
