Chandrababu Naidu Criticizes AAP, Defends Modi Budget and Draws Parallel Between Arvind Kejriwal and Jagan Reddy

New Delhi:
In response to Opposition claims that Andhra Pradesh was shortchanged in the 2025 Budget, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu praised the Narendra Modi government, stating that the Budget aims to propel India towards becoming a developed nation by 2047. Naidu emphasized that the government’s focus aligns with the TDP’s ten growth principles, showing support for the fiscal proposals.

Addressing the media ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, Naidu targeted the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), labeling the Delhi government model as “failed” and urging voters to choose a party that could ensure inclusive growth. He described the current government as a “half-engine sarkar,” highlighting the need for a “double-engine” government, a term popularized by the BJP to stress the benefits of having the same party in power at both the state and national levels.

Naidu went on to criticize the deteriorating conditions in Delhi, stating that both “weather and political pollution” were major concerns for residents. He argued that performance and improved living standards have become more important than ideology, and noted that many poor people in Delhi are facing the difficult decision of whether to stay in slums.

On the 2025 Budget, Naidu expressed full support for its proposals, emphasizing the alignment with TDP’s growth principles. “We agree with this Budget. It is in line with our vision for a Viksit Bharat by 2047,” he said.

Earlier, Naidu had publicly praised Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for presenting a “pro-people and progressive budget” that prioritizes the welfare of women, the poor, youth, and farmers. The Budget’s focus on six key sectors for growth in the coming years, as well as tax relief for the middle class, received his endorsement as a step towards national prosperity.

Despite Naidu’s support, the Budget has drawn criticism from rivals. Congress and the YSR Congress Party, which is a significant opponent of Naidu, pointed out that while Bihar received substantial attention in the Budget—likely due to upcoming elections—the Andhra Pradesh government received no significant announcements. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh questioned why Andhra Pradesh, a key ally to the BJP, had been “so cruelly ignored.”

YSR Congress also criticized Naidu for not securing a better deal for Andhra Pradesh. Senior YSR leader B. Rajendranath Reddy accused Naidu of failing to pressure the Centre and allowing Bihar to receive preferential treatment despite the TDP’s 16 MPs.

In an election rally in Delhi’s Shahdara, Naidu rallied support for the BJP, speaking to a crowd of Telugu speakers in their native language. He also drew comparisons between his political rival, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, and Delhi’s Arvind Kejriwal, accusing both of indulging in lavish expenditures while ignoring public welfare. He urged Delhi’s voters to follow the example of Andhra Pradesh, where the people had voted out Jagan Reddy.

Naidu’s remarks underline the ongoing political debate around the Budget and its implications for regional politics as the elections approach.
