AAP leader Atishi on Thursday accused the newly-formed BJP government in Delhi of reneging on its electoral commitments. She criticized Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s cabinet for not including the ₹2,500 monthly financial aid for women—one of the BJP’s key pre-poll promises—among the first decisions taken in its inaugural meeting.
Slamming the move, Atishi alleged that the BJP had “decided to deceive the people” by omitting the promised financial assistance. “The BJP assured Delhi’s women that ₹2,500 would be approved in the first cabinet meeting. The new CM and her ministers took oath, and later that evening, the meeting took place. But the scheme was not passed,” Atishi said in a video message on X.
“The BJP has already begun breaking promises from day one,” she added.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that her government had approved the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme, another poll commitment. The scheme will offer ₹10 lakh health coverage to beneficiaries, with costs shared equally between the Centre and the Delhi government.
Additionally, Gupta stated that her administration would present 14 Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports on the performance of the previous AAP-led government in the first session of the newly formed Delhi Assembly. These reports, she claimed, had been withheld by the previous regime.
Responding to Atishi’s remarks, CM Gupta dismissed the criticism, stating, “This is our government, and we will set the agenda. She has done her part while in power—now, let us work.”
