Amid an ongoing dispute between the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) over seat-sharing for the Maharashtra Assembly elections, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has asserted that “there is no place for sacrifice in politics.” He stated that if the MVA doesn’t include SP in the alliance, the party will contest seats where it has strong public support, Yadav told ANI on Sunday.

Yadav emphasized that SP will focus on constituencies where the party has a solid voter base or where its workers are active, while avoiding seats that could harm the alliance. He added that the state president of SP will decide the strategy but reiterated that political sacrifices are off the table.

“The state president of the Samajwadi Party will decide. First, we will try to be in an alliance. But, if they (MVA) don’t keep us in the alliance, we will contest on seats where we can secure votes or have an organizational presence. We’ll avoid seats that could damage the alliance, but in politics, there is no room for sacrifice,” Yadav was quoted as saying by ANI.

MVA-Samajwadi Party seat-sharing dispute for Maharashtra polls
The MVA has yet to settle SP’s long-standing demand for five seats in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. SP has repeatedly criticized the alliance for delaying this decision. On Saturday, SP Maharashtra Chief Abu Azmi told ANI that if seats are not allocated, SP will have no option but to run independently.

“We spoke to Sharad Pawar yesterday. He said they would decide today, but I haven’t received a call. The seats I requested are being announced for others. It seems we’re facing betrayal again, like in previous elections. If MVA doesn’t listen to us, we will contest alone. I’ve spoken to Akhilesh Yadav, and he has given me full authority,” Azmi was quoted by ANI.

Samajwadi Party plans to contest 20 seats in Maharashtra
Disillusioned by MVA’s stance, Abu Azmi told that SP plans to contest at least 20 seats in Maharashtra. He has already warned MVA leaders that any harm to the alliance due to a vote split will be a consequence of their inaction.
