At the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) state conference in Chennai, actor-turned-politician Vijay underscored his party’s dedication to secularism and social justice. Under his guidance, TVK passed resolutions opposing several key national issues, including the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal, the Waqf Amendment Bill, and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

During a meeting with executive and district functionaries, which Vijay chaired, a resolution criticized the MK Stalin-led Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government for the deteriorating law and order situation in Tamil Nadu. The resolution also advocated for greater state control over education, proposing that education be moved to the State List, allowing the Tamil Nadu government to revoke NEET if it wished. TVK stated, “The Union Government should shift education to the State List, allowing the state to act independently.”

The TVK further accused the DMK government of misleading the people of Tamil Nadu with unfulfilled promises and policies. The party also denounced the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal, arguing it threatens democratic and federal principles. Additionally, the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, currently under review by a Joint Parliamentary Committee, was labeled an “attack on federalism,” with TVK demanding its withdrawal.

In his address, Vijay reaffirmed that TVK’s ideology is inspired by leaders like EVR Periyar and K. Kamaraj, with a strong focus on secularism and social justice.
