This milestone brings the long-cherished dream of connecting Kashmir by rail closer to reality, with promises of boosting tourism, horticulture, trade, travel, and education in the region.

Vaishnaw posted the video on X, captioning, “Three engineering marvels of Bharat; Vande Bharat crossing over Chenab bridge and Anji Khad bridge. Jammu & Kashmir.” The video has since gone viral, capturing the imagination of viewers across the nation.

The achievement has drawn widespread praise online. One user celebrated the ease of travel to Kashmir, calling it a game-changer for connectivity. Another described the project as an “inspiration for the entire nation,” while others hailed it as a landmark step in India’s progress.

Trial Run of Vande Bharat Train

The Indian Railways recently conducted a successful trial run of the Vande Bharat train on the route connecting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) railway station to Srinagar. This journey features two engineering marvels: the Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge, and the Chenab Bridge, the tallest railway bridge in the world.

The train, designed to endure the harsh winter conditions of the Kashmir Valley, marks a significant advancement in modern rail travel for the region.

When Will Operations Begin?

Reports suggest that the first passenger train on this route is set to commence operations in February 2025, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to inaugurate the service from Katra railway station.

The all-weather Vande Bharat service will offer a reliable and comfortable travel option, addressing the challenges posed by frequent closures of the Jammu-Srinagar highway during winter months. This project symbolizes a historic leap in rail infrastructure, enhancing connectivity and opportunities for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
