Two Indian Army Soldiers Killed in Training Accident at Bikaner’s Mahajan Field Firing Range
Two Indian Army soldiers lost their lives on Wednesday during a routine training exercise at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Bikaner, Rajasthan. The soldiers, Ashutosh Mishra from Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district and Jitendra from Rajasthan’s Dausa district, were loading ammunition into a tank when an unexpected explosion occurred. The blast instantly claimed their lives and severely injured a third soldier, who is currently undergoing treatment.

The tragic explosion took place during a live-fire exercise, drawing immediate attention from nearby personnel. Preliminary investigations suggest that the mishap occurred while ammunition was being loaded into the tank. A defence spokesperson confirmed, “The charger exploded while the soldiers were loading the ammunition.” Senior officials, including Circle Officer Narendra Poonia, arrived at the scene to oversee the investigation.
The bodies of the deceased soldiers were sent to the Military Hospital in Suratgarh for further procedures and identification. The injured soldier was airlifted to Chandigarh for urgent medical attention, where his condition remains critical.
A String of Recent Tragedies
This incident follows another fatal accident at the same training ground just days earlier. On December 15, Havildar Chandra Prakash Patel of the 199th Medium Regiment lost his life during an artillery exercise. While towing a gun vehicle, it lost traction on a ramp, critically injuring Patel. Despite immediate medical care, he succumbed to his injuries. Defence officials have classified his death as a battle casualty, and a court of inquiry has been ordered to investigate both incidents.
