New Delhi: A devastating accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj claimed the lives of ten devotees en route to the Maha Kumbh after their vehicle collided with a bus. The incident, which occurred on the Prayagraj-Mirzapur highway near Meja, also left 19 people injured.
The victims, who hailed from Chhattisgarh’s Korba district, were traveling in a Bolero to reach the sacred Sangam, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati converge. Their vehicle crashed into a bus originating from Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh district.
Following the accident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister swiftly responded, instructing authorities to accelerate relief efforts and provide proper medical care to the injured.
This incident follows another tragic accident earlier in the week when seven pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh lost their lives, and two others sustained injuries after their mini-bus collided with a truck in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district.
Adding to the series of unfortunate events, a deadly stampede at the Maha Kumbh venue on January 29 resulted in the deaths of 30 people, with 60 others injured. Authorities reported that the chaos unfolded as crowds surged forward to take a holy dip on Mauni Amavasya, a day of immense religious significance.
The Maha Kumbh, which commenced on January 13, is set to conclude on February 26.
