Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy unveiled a transformative plan on Wednesday to revolutionize Hyderabad’s infrastructure with two concentric circles of roads and railways. The initiative includes expanding the Hyderabad Metro Rail, constructing the Regional Ring Road (RRR), and establishing a Regional Ring Railway. These systems will be interconnected with radial roads to create a seamless urban mobility network.

Speaking at the Urban Mobility Roundtable Conference in Davos, Revanth Reddy emphasized the critical role of efficient transportation in urban development. “Mobility is life. Cities that minimize the cost and time of moving people and goods will thrive,” he remarked.

To accommodate Hyderabad’s rapidly growing population, which now exceeds 1.2 crore, Reddy outlined plans to expand the Metro Rail network to over 100 kilometers, more than doubling its current reach. The 360-km Regional Ring Road will connect key towns and villages surrounding the city, while the new Regional Ring Railway will run parallel to the road network, forming dual layers of connectivity.

Additionally, the state government plans to replace 3,000 diesel and petrol-powered public buses with electric buses. Telangana has also eliminated road tax and registration fees for electric vehicles, positioning itself as a leader in EV adoption in India.

Revanth Reddy shared plans for a new dry port near Hyderabad to enhance supply chain efficiency, with direct links to Andhra Pradesh’s Machilipatnam seaport through dedicated highways and railways. He also revealed ambitions to build a net-zero city with cutting-edge mobility solutions to further promote sustainability.

In his concluding remarks, the Chief Minister invited global investors and experts to join the effort to make Hyderabad a model of fast, cost-effective, and green mobility. “Help us make Hyderabad the fastest and greenest city in the world,” he appealed.

This bold vision promises to position Hyderabad as a hub of innovation and sustainability, paving the way for a more connected and competitive future.
