Bhopal:
A violent clash broke out today in the Jahangirabad area of Bhopal, leaving at least six people, including women, injured. What began as an argument over reckless driving escalated into a full-fledged communal altercation, with stone-throwing and sword-waving prompting a swift police response to restore order.
The conflict traces its roots to Sunday when Faiz, a local resident, allegedly drove carelessly through the neighborhood, which sparked a confrontation with members of a nearby community. During the altercation, Faiz is said to have seized a knife from a vegetable cart and attacked an individual. Faiz was subsequently arrested, and an FIR was filed against him.
Awadhesh Kumar Goswami, Additional Commissioner of Police, explained that the initial dispute involved a clash between two groups, one comprising five individuals. Three of them were arrested, but the situation reignited on Tuesday due to the presence of a person involved in the previous incident who had not been apprehended. This led to retaliatory stone-throwing by members of the affected group, intensifying the conflict.
Fortunately, a large police presence was already stationed nearby for a Congress rally, allowing officers to quickly intervene and regain control of the situation. Authorities are now using CCTV footage to identify those responsible for the stone-throwing and will take appropriate action.
Two additional individuals who were not arrested in connection with Sunday’s incident have also been taken into custody. To prevent further violence, the police have increased their presence in the area. Disturbing visuals from the scene showed people hurling stones and running with swords, highlighting the intensity of the altercation.
