PM Modi Heads to Guyana, Wraps Up Three-Nation Tour Following G20 Summit in Brazil

Prime Minister Narendra Modi entered the final stage of his three-nation journey on Wednesday, traveling to Guyana following a fruitful G20 Summit in Brazil. Held in Rio de Janeiro, the summit provided Modi an opportunity to engage with prominent world leaders such as US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, focusing on critical global issues and avenues for strengthened cooperation.

Prior to Brazil, Modi visited Nigeria, where he held extensive discussions with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and met members of the Indian diaspora. His tour underscored India’s growing engagement with nations across continents, aimed at strengthening ties in trade, technology, and development.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement announcing Modi’s departure from Brazil, describing the G20 Summit as “constructive and fruitful.” During his stay in Brazil, Modi was warmly welcomed by the Indian community, who greeted him with Sanskrit chants and vibrant cultural performances.

At the G20, Modi delivered a compelling address, reiterating India’s theme of “One Earth, One Family, One Future” and urging the group to address critical global challenges, particularly the food, fuel, and fertilizer crises disproportionately affecting the Global South. He also emphasized India’s achievements in lifting 250 million citizens out of poverty in the last decade and providing free food grains to 800 million people.

Modi’s interactions at the summit included discussions with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, focusing on collaboration in energy, biofuels, defense, and agriculture. Talks with President Macron explored partnerships in space, renewable energy, and artificial intelligence, while discussions with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer centered on advancing cooperation in technology, green energy, and security.

Additionally, India and Italy unveiled a five-year strategic action plan encompassing defense, clean energy, trade, and connectivity. Modi also met with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, launching a Renewable Energy Partnership to enhance investments in sustainable sectors.

Modi’s visit to Guyana, which marks the first by an Indian prime minister in over five decades, is at the invitation of Guyanese President Mohamed Irfaan Ali. The visit is expected to further cement ties between the two nations, with a focus on cultural and economic collaboration. This tour reinforces India’s growing diplomatic footprint and its commitment to fostering partnerships worldwide.
