Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention in Bhubaneswar on Thursday, emphasizing India’s growing global influence and the wisdom it draws from its rich heritage. He highlighted that today, the world listens to India, a nation that advocates for peace and progress. Modi stated that India’s future lies not in war but in the teachings of Buddha, emphasizing the country’s legacy of non-violence and diplomacy.

Modi also underscored India’s identity as the “mother of democracy,” adding that democracy is not just a concept for India, but a way of life ingrained in its culture. He lauded the Indian diaspora, recognizing their contributions in shaping the global image of India, particularly in promoting social values in their adopted countries.

The Prime Minister expressed deep gratitude towards the diaspora, stating that their success and respect worldwide help him hold his head high. He also reaffirmed that the government’s commitment to the welfare of the diaspora is a priority, particularly during crises. He highlighted recent improvements in consular services, such as the opening of 14 new embassies and expanding the reach of the Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card.

Looking ahead to India’s future, Modi sought the help of the diaspora to transform India into a developed nation by 2047. He pointed out that India, with its young and skilled workforce, is ready to fulfill global demands for talent. He also lauded the country’s rapid progress, from lifting millions out of poverty to becoming the fifth-largest economy globally, with aspirations to rise further in the coming years.

The PM encouraged the diaspora to share the “true history of India” and to continue fostering cultural and economic ties. He invited them to visit India’s vibrant festivals, like the upcoming Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, and to support “Made in India” products, contributing to the nation’s development.

The ongoing convention sees participation from NRIs and PIOs from 50 countries, further strengthening the bond between India and its global citizens.
