PM Modi’s ‘One Tree for Mother’ Initiative Goes Global
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘ek ped maa ke naam’ (one tree for mother) initiative reached a global milestone on Wednesday.
In a symbolic gesture of environmental commitment, PM Modi and Guyana’s President Irfaan Ali planted a sapling together in Georgetown, marking the international expansion of a campaign that has already garnered significant participation across India since its launch on World Environment Day, June 5, 2024.
The initiative encourages individuals to plant a tree in honor of their mothers, blending environmental responsibility with the universal bond of maternal love.
“This movement isn’t just about promoting environmentalism, it also fosters connections between nations, rooted in shared values of nature conservation and reverence for motherhood,” stated a senior official.
Following the event, PM Modi shared a post on X, saying, “A shared commitment to sustainability! In a very special gesture, my friend, President Dr. Irfaan Ali, participated in the ‘ek ped maa ke naam’ movement, planting a tree alongside his grandmother and mother-in-law.”
