Kolkata:
West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar escorted a group of displaced residents from riot-hit Murshidabad to Raj Bhawan on Thursday, where they shared harrowing accounts of the violence with Governor CV Ananda Bose.
These individuals, who were forced to take shelter in relief camps after allegedly being targeted during the recent unrest, appealed to the Governor for immediate intervention. They requested permanent deployment of central security forces, preferably a BSF unit, to safeguard their community from future attacks.
The victims recounted that their homes, shops, and personal belongings were looted and set ablaze, leaving them with no option but to escape under the protection of central forces. Many of them were visibly emotional while speaking to the Governor, highlighting the trauma they endured.
Alongside security concerns, the group also demanded job opportunities within the government and financial aid to help them rebuild their lives from scratch.
Ahead of the interaction, Governor Bose remarked, “This is a highly sensitive matter. I empathize with those who have lost their homes and livelihoods. I will listen to their complaints and compile a comprehensive report based on their testimonies.”
BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar blamed the state government for its inability to protect citizens. “These people are clear victims of orchestrated violence. The administration has completely failed them,” he stated.
While the BJP continues to accuse the ruling party of allowing widespread violence and political intimidation across the state, the West Bengal government has refuted all such allegations.
