Mumbai’s Khar Police have issued a summons to comedian Kunal Kamra, asking him to appear for questioning at 11 AM on Tuesday regarding remarks he made during a stand-up show, which allegedly targeted Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

According to officials, Kamra is currently not in Mumbai. The case was initially registered by MIDC Police before being transferred to Khar Police for further investigation, as per ANI reports.

The Controversy

Kamra’s latest stand-up performance, uploaded on YouTube and Instagram, triggered outrage among Shinde’s supporters. The backlash escalated on Sunday when Shiv Sena members vandalized the Mumbai venue where the act was filmed and warned that Kamra would not be allowed to “walk freely.”

Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel filed an FIR against the comedian, while Khar Police detained Shiv Sena deputy leader Rahul Kanal, Vibhag Pramukh Shrikant Sarmalkar, and others involved in the vandalism of Unicontinental The Habitat in Khar West.

Kamra’s Satirical Take on Maharashtra Politics

During his set, Kamra poked fun at the shifting political landscape in Maharashtra, referencing the breakaway factions of Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Taking a dig at the political instability, he quipped:

“What happened in Maharashtra’s elections was unprecedented… First, Shiv Sena broke away from BJP, then Shiv Sena split from itself… NCP split from NCP… A voter was given nine buttons to press, leaving everyone confused.”

He then made an indirect reference to Eknath Shinde’s role in the split, suggesting that the trend was started by “one man from Thane” before breaking into a parody of a song from Dil To Pagal Hai.

The political firestorm surrounding Kamra’s performance continues to grow, with law enforcement and political parties closely watching the developments.
