Tunnel Collapse in Telangana: Six Workers Feared Trapped, Rescue Ops Underway

In Telangana, at least six workers are feared trapped after a section of an under-construction tunnel behind the Srisailam dam caved in on Saturday. According to police, a team from the construction company has been deployed to assess the situation. The collapse took place while workers were inside fixing a leak. While three individuals managed to escape, rescue efforts are ongoing to locate and bring the remaining trapped workers to safety.

The tunnel, part of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project in Nagarkurnool district, had reopened just four days prior. Officials confirmed that the collapse occurred at the 14th-km mark, where a three-meter section of the tunnel’s roof gave way.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed concern over the incident and directed officials, including the District Collector, SP, Fire Department, and Irrigation Department, to take immediate action. Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar and senior department officials have been dispatched to the site via helicopter.

Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy has also sought details regarding the accident and urged officials to ensure the swift rescue of those trapped and proper medical care for the injured.
