Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a three-nation tour starting November 16, which includes attending the G20 Summit in Brazil and strengthening ties with Nigeria and Guyana.
Modi’s visit to Nigeria on November 16-17 marks the first by an Indian prime minister in 17 years, following an invitation from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. During the visit, Modi will review the strategic partnership between the two countries, explore avenues for enhancing cooperation, and address the Indian community. India and Nigeria have a strong partnership, with Indian companies investing over $27 billion across sectors like energy, defense, and the economy.
The key event of the tour will be Modi’s participation in the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on November 18-19. As part of the G20 troika with Brazil and South Africa, India will engage in discussions on global issues and build on the outcomes of recent G20 summits and the Voice of the Global South initiative. Modi is expected to hold bilateral meetings with various world leaders on the sidelines of the summit.
The final leg of the tour includes a visit to Guyana from November 19-21, at the invitation of President Mohamed Irfaan Ali. Modi’s trip to Guyana is the first by an Indian premier since 1968. He will hold talks with President Ali, address the Parliament and Indian diaspora, and participate in the second CARICOM-India Summit in Georgetown, where he will engage with CARICOM leaders to bolster India’s presence in the Caribbean region.
