Massive Fire at Varanasi Cantt Railway Station Parking Lot, 200 Vehicles Damaged

Varanasi: A devastating fire broke out in the vehicle parking area of Varanasi’s Cantt railway station early Saturday, destroying at least 200 two-wheelers.

Videos from the scene showed towering flames and thick smoke engulfing the parking area. Fire brigade officials, along with police teams, worked tirelessly to douse the fire. Footage captured police officers using water hoses to combat the blaze.

A total of 12 fire brigade vehicles, supported by teams from the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and local police, were deployed to extinguish the fire.

Cause of Fire

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire started due to a short circuit. CO GRP Kunwar Bahadur Singh confirmed, “There were also cycles that got burnt. The fire was caused by a short circuit. Further investigation is ongoing.”

Railway Employees Among the Affected

Most of the two-wheelers damaged in the fire reportedly belonged to railway employees.

One railway employee recounted, “I parked my bike around midnight. Earlier, a short circuit had been reported and fixed around 11 PM. A few hours later, a passenger informed me about the fire. I managed to move my bike before the flames spread across the parking lot.”

The fire, which lasted nearly two hours, caused significant damage but thankfully resulted in no injuries. Officials are continuing their investigation to determine further details.
