Varanasi Cantt Railway Station Parking Lot Fire: Over 200 Vehicles Damaged
Varanasi: A massive fire erupted in the parking area of Varanasi’s Cantt railway station early Saturday, leaving more than 200 two-wheelers charred.
Videos from the scene revealed intense flames and thick black smoke consuming the parking lot, prompting swift action from emergency services. Firefighters and police teams worked diligently to bring the blaze under control, with footage showing officers using water hoses to combat the inferno.
To contain the fire, 12 fire brigade vehicles were dispatched, supported by personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and local police.
Suspected Cause of the Fire
Initial findings indicate that the fire was triggered by a short circuit. CO GRP Kunwar Bahadur Singh stated, “Some cycles were also destroyed in the fire. Preliminary investigation points to a short circuit as the cause. Further inquiries are underway.”
Impact on Railway Employees
Many of the vehicles damaged in the fire reportedly belonged to railway staff.
A railway employee shared his account: “I parked my bike around midnight. There was a short circuit earlier in the evening, around 11 PM, which had been fixed. Hours later, a passenger alerted me about the fire. I managed to retrieve my bike just before the flames engulfed the area.”
The fire, which lasted nearly two hours, caused extensive damage but fortunately resulted in no injuries. Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover additional details.
