In anticipation of the massive crowds expected at the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj for the auspicious Mauni Amavasya bathing ritual on Wednesday, January 29, Uttar Pradesh police have issued a comprehensive traffic and parking advisory to ensure a smooth and secure experience for devotees attending the world’s largest religious gathering.
Mauni Amavasya, or Maghi Amavasya, holds immense significance in Hindu tradition and coincides with the Mahakumbh Mela this year. It will feature a special ritual bathing, drawing millions of pilgrims.
The Uttar Pradesh police reassured the public in a statement on X, saying they are dedicated to ensuring safety and a hassle-free experience for all attendees.
Mahakumbh Traffic Advisory (January 29)
- Vehicles will be prohibited from entering the Mahakumbh area to avoid congestion and potential safety hazards.
- The area will be declared a ‘no-VIP zone,’ with access for ‘akharas’ only through designated slots.
- Pontoon bridges will operate with one-way traffic or be closed as necessary to manage flow and ensure safety.
Mahakumbh Parking Arrangements
- Kali-2 Parking: Vehicles can be parked from Old GT Road, next to Alopi Devi temple, via Baghambari Road, and at the temporary police station near Alopi Devi temple.
- Nagavasuki Parking (Bakshi Dam): Available below the Nagavasuki ramp, accessible via Hasimpur Bridge from Balsan Square.
- Baghada Parking: Accessible from Balsan Square, through Hasimpur Bridge, descending from Bakshi Dam to the water tank.
- Gangeshwar Mahadev Parking: For devotees coming from Telierganj, Shivkuti, and Govindpur via Ashtron Square near Gangeshwar Temple.
- Colonelganj Inter College and Muslim Hostel Ground Parking: For devotees arriving from Ashok Nagar and Katra area.
- Plot No. 17 Parking: Available via GT Road, Jawahar Square, Harshvardhan Square, and Bangar Square.
- ECC Degree College and Jamuna Christian School Parking: For those arriving from the old city via Yamuna Bank Road.
- IERT Ground Parking: Open for devotees coming from Mumfordganj via Mazar Square, after crossing the IERT Over Bridge.
- CMP Degree College and KP Ground Parking: For devotees from MG Marg.
So far, around 14.76 crore pilgrims have taken a holy dip at the Mahakumbh, and an estimated 8-9 crore more are expected for the Amrit Snan on Mauni Amavasya.
