The Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha has announced a scholarship in honor of a 20-year-old Nepalese student who tragically passed away in her hostel room on February 16. The incident, suspected to be a case of suicide, led to unrest on campus.

KIIT and KISS founder Achyuta Samanta made the announcement on Wednesday after meeting the student’s father and uncle to express his condolences. “A scholarship will be established in her name as a tribute to her memory,” Samanta stated in an official release.

In response to concerns from Nepalese students, senior officials from Nepal’s Embassy in New Delhi visited the campus, assuring them of measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

KIIT has also taken steps to facilitate the return of Nepalese students who are yet to travel back home, reaffirming its commitment to their safety and well-being.

Samanta personally reached out to Nepal’s Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba and Minister for Water Supply Pradeep Yadav, assuring them that the institute is prioritizing student safety.

Meanwhile, the student’s body was flown to Nepal on Wednesday after completing legal formalities.
