SAHEBGANJ: A fatal collision between two NTPC-operated goods trains in Jharkhand’s Sahebganj district early Tuesday claimed the lives of two individuals and left four others injured, police reported.
The accident occurred around 3 AM near Bhognadih in the Barhait police station jurisdiction on tracks owned by NTPC, primarily used for coal transportation to its power plants.
“The collision resulted in the deaths of both train drivers,” confirmed Sahebganj sub-divisional police officer Kishore Tirkey.
Eastern Railway spokesperson Kausik Mitra emphasized that the incident was unrelated to Indian Railways, as NTPC owns both the trains and the railway track.
The railway stretch where the crash took place serves as a key coal transport route between NTPC’s Kahalgaon Super Thermal Power Station in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district and its Farakka Power Plant in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district.
