Jammu: A Jammu and Kashmir police constable was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly selling drugs on the premises of the Government Medical College (GMC) in Jammu. This marks the second such arrest in a week. The arrested officer, identified as Mohammad Mukhtiyar from Geloti village in Udhampur district, was found in possession of 15 grams of heroin and Rs. 9,000 in cash after being frisked by the police at the GMC.
Mukhtiyar, who was posted with the Armed Police 12th Battalion in Zewan, Srinagar, was suspected of being involved in a drug syndicate operating in the Jammu region. The arrest follows a similar case earlier this month, when Constable Perwaiz Iqbal of the Jammu Crime Branch was detained along with two women, with 33 grams of heroin seized.
The ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking in the region has also led to significant actions, including the dismissal of five police personnel and a teacher in August, who were allegedly linked to a narco-terror network reportedly connected to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The two arrests highlight the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s continued efforts to combat drug-related crimes and maintain security in the region.
