IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers shared his profound experience after attending the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Writing on LinkedIn, he described the event as an unparalleled gathering of humanity, drawing an estimated 450 million visitors over 45 days.

Elbers, who took an early morning dip at the Triveni Sangam—the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati—expressed how he found a rare moment of peace amid the spiritual chaos. He noted that no words or images could truly capture the energy and magnitude of the Maha Kumbh, calling it a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Reflecting on the scale of the festival, he compared the number of attendees to the entire population of Europe, emphasizing the cultural, spiritual, and historical significance of the event. He also expressed gratitude to the IndiGo team at Prayagraj Airport for managing the surge in travelers during the festival.

The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, which runs from January 13 to February 26, has already witnessed over 100 million devotees taking a dip at Sangam in the first 10 days. The final count is expected to exceed 400 million by the festival’s end. Major bathing dates include February 3 (Basant Panchami), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri), with the sacred ritual believed to purify the soul and lead to spiritual liberation.
