Indian Fishing Vessel Collides with Navy Submarine Off Goa Coast; Search Underway for Missing Crew Members
Goa: A fishing vessel, Marthoma, with 13 crew members on board, collided with an Indian Navy Scorpene-class submarine off the Goa coast, officials confirmed today. The incident occurred approximately 70 nautical miles from shore.
The Indian Navy has launched an extensive search and rescue operation, deploying six ships and multiple aircraft to locate the missing crew members. As of now, 11 fishermen have been rescued, while two remain unaccounted for.
The Ministry of Defence has coordinated with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai to track down the missing crew. Additional assets, including support from the Coast Guard, have been mobilized to assist in the ongoing efforts.
The cause of the collision is under investigation, with authorities working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Scorpene-class submarines, which are integral to India’s naval fleet, are equipped with advanced stealth technology, allowing them to conduct a wide range of operations, including anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare, intelligence gathering, and surveillance.
