NEW DELHI: The Indian Army has reported that Pakistani forces violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Tuesday by resorting to “unprovoked firing.”

While the Indian Army did not confirm casualties on the Pakistani side, official sources indicated that at least five enemy soldiers were wounded following an explosion and retaliatory fire.

Jammu-based Defence PRO, Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, stated, “On April 1, 2025, a mine blast occurred in the Krishna Ghati Sector after a Pakistani Army intrusion attempt across the LoC. This was followed by unprovoked firing, resulting in a ceasefire violation.”

He emphasized that Indian troops exercised restraint while responding effectively, ensuring the situation remained under control.

“Our forces responded in a measured and calibrated manner. The situation is stable and is being closely monitored,” he added.

The Indian Army reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace along the LoC while upholding the 2021 DGsMO agreement.

This latest ceasefire violation comes just a month after a similar breach by Pakistani troops in the same region. Security sources believe such incidents are often used to facilitate terrorist infiltrations under the cover of gunfire.

Despite Pakistan’s formal commitment to the ceasefire, repeated violations have occurred. Significant breaches include the September 11, 2023, cross-border firing in Jammu’s Akhnoor sector, which resulted in the death of a BSF trooper, and another in November 2023, when an Indian soldier lost his life due to firing by Pakistan Rangers in Samba.
