Goa CM Pramod Sawant Rebukes Influencers for Spreading False Claims About Tourist Numbers
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has strongly refuted claims by some social media influencers who suggested that the coastal state was “empty” this holiday season, despite it traditionally being a popular destination for tourists during Christmas and New Year. Sawant clarified that “hotels are full” and emphasized that misleading messages were being spread about the state.
He remarked, “All hotels here are full. Some influencers are wrongly saying that tourists are not visiting Goa and are heading elsewhere. They are spreading incorrect information about the state,” he told ANI.
The Chief Minister invited these influencers to experience Goa firsthand, saying, “I encourage them to visit the coastal sites and witness the reality. The roads are packed with vehicles, the beaches are crowded, and we have seen a significant number of international tourists. The atmosphere is bustling with excitement, and people are being warmly welcomed.”
Sawant also highlighted that December is a crucial month for Goa, marking a period of vibrant festivals and celebrations. “I extend a warm welcome to visitors from across the country. December is an important month for us, with numerous international events, Christmas, and the New Year’s celebrations taking place. The months of November, December, and January always witness a surge in tourism,” he added.
In support of the CM’s statements, Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte took to a press conference, accusing “paid influencers” of tarnishing Goa’s reputation. He criticized the influencers for spreading the false narrative that tourist numbers had dwindled and that visitors were flocking to destinations like Thailand. “This type of marketing for other destinations at the expense of Goa is misleading, and we will expose these influencers,” Khaunte stated.
