PRAYAGRAJ: A fire broke out on Wednesday morning at the Ram Das Ashram kitchen in Sector 5 of the Maha Kumbh Mela, just as preparations were underway to fry puris. The flames were quickly controlled by local firemen, preventing further damage.

This incident occurred a day after a catastrophic LPG cylinder explosion in Sector 19, which also sparked a large fire. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported from either fire. However, the extent of the damage in Sector 5 is still under evaluation.

In light of these incidents, Maha Kumbh Mela officials have reassured the public that safety protocols are being thoroughly reviewed and strengthened.

Despite the fire outbreaks, the Mela continues to draw millions of devotees, with safety and security at the forefront of organizers’ priorities. “We take fire safety very seriously. There are 53 fire stations and over 1,300 fire personnel stationed here, along with more than 300 fire vehicles. We’re committed to enhancing this even further. With an area as vast as the Maha Kumbh, our response time is under three minutes,” said DG Fire Avinash Chandra. He urged devotees to come without concern, ensuring top-tier fire safety measures are in place.
