Jalandhar, Punjab – A mysterious blast outside the home of senior BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia in the early hours of Tuesday has sparked a high-level investigation, as officials work to determine whether the incident was an act of targeted violence.
The explosion occurred around 1 am near Kalia’s residence. While no injuries were reported, the loud sound startled locals and immediately drew attention from police and forensic teams. Kalia, who was asleep at the time, initially mistook the noise for thunder. “Later, I was informed it was a blast. I dispatched my security personnel to inform the police right away,” he said.
Police officers and bomb disposal units quickly secured the area. Forensic experts began collecting material from the site, and authorities are closely analyzing surveillance footage to identify the suspects. The nature of the blast—whether it was a grenade or another form of explosive—is still under investigation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Manpreet Singh confirmed that a detailed forensic report is awaited. Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur also visited the scene and assured that every angle is being explored. “CCTV footage is under review, and forensic teams are examining the evidence to confirm the type of explosive used,” she stated.
This latest incident follows a worrying pattern of similar explosions in Punjab. Last month, a grenade attack targeted the home of a Jalandhar YouTuber, resulting in four arrests. In another case, masked individuals hurled explosives outside a temple in Amritsar’s Khandwala area, causing property damage but no injuries.
Punjab has witnessed a total of 10 blast-related incidents near police buildings and public spaces between November 2024 and February 2025, raising serious concerns about public safety and the possibility of organized plots.
Security has been tightened across key locations in Jalandhar, and investigators are trying to establish whether the attack on Kalia’s home is linked to these past incidents.
