In a tragic incident in Jaipur’s Nahargarh area, two people lost their lives and eight others were injured after a speeding car, driven by a man allegedly under the influence of alcohol, plowed through a busy stretch of road. The driver, identified as Usman, was reportedly driving his Creta SUV at a speed of 70-80 kmph through a densely populated zone.
The incident unfolded around 9 pm as Usman sped from MI Road toward the walled city, recklessly colliding with pedestrians, vehicles, and roadside structures. CCTV footage captured the disturbing moments as the car caused a series of crashes along the way.
Eyewitness Dipendra shared that the vehicle first hit a young girl and then smashed into his bike near the Santoshi Mata Mandir. “I jumped off in time, but my bike was dragged for nearly 20 metres,” he told .
The chaotic drive came to a halt thanks to the quick thinking of a scooter rider who chased the car. Risking his life, he grabbed the steering wheel mid-chase. Though dragged for some distance, he managed to steer the vehicle into a roadside blockade, stopping the rampage.
Usman fled the scene but was soon detained by police. Teams from the Nahargarh police station responded quickly, rushing the injured to the hospital.
Among the injured is a three-year-old girl, according to BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya, who called for increased police checkposts in the area to prevent such tragedies.
Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot condemned the incident as “heart-wrenching” and demanded strict legal action against the accused under the harshest applicable charges.
