Traffic in several areas of Delhi and Noida has been significantly affected as preparations are underway for the farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ march, scheduled for Monday. The protest, led by the Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP) and backed by farmer groups from more than 20 districts, aims to bring attention to their demands for action from the central government.

Major traffic congestion has been reported across Delhi-NCR, with vehicles moving at a slow pace due to extensive police presence and road barricades. Visuals from the Chilla border show vehicles crawling, while traffic on the DND flyway has come to a complete standstill, with all 10 lanes fully occupied.

To manage the disruptions, Noida Police issued a traffic advisory, warning commuters about diversions and recommending alternative routes:
–  Chilla Border to Greater Noida : Follow the route through Sector 14-A flyover, Golchakkar Chowk, Sandeep Paper Mill Chowk, and Jhunjhupura Chowk.
–  DND Border to Delhi : Take the Film City flyover, pass through Sector-18, and use the Elevated Road.
–  Kalindi Border to Delhi : Travel via Mahamaya flyover and Sector-37.
–  Greater Noida to Delhi : Use the Charkha roundabout, Kalindi Kunj, or the Hajipur underpass through Sector-51 and Model Town.
–  Yamuna Expressway Traffic : Exit at Jewar toll and continue through Khurja and Jahangirpur.
–  Peripheral Expressway Traffic : Use Dadri or Dasna exits as alternatives to Sirsa.

To ensure public safety, heightened security measures have been implemented throughout Delhi, with checkpoints set up for thorough vehicle inspections.

The farmers’ protest, spearheaded by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (a non-political coalition) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), seeks critical amendments to agricultural laws and adequate compensation for affected families. Farmers have been camping at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since February in preparation for the movement.

The protest’s key demands include:

1. Allocating 10% of plots and increasing compensation by 64.7% under the old land acquisition law.
2. Providing compensation at four times the market value and 20% plot allocation for land acquired after January 1, 2014.
3. Offering employment and rehabilitation benefits to children of landless farmers.
4. Implementing government orders issued by the High Power Committee.
5. Ensuring proper resettlement and compensation for displaced residents in populated areas.

BKP leader Sukhbir Khalifa confirmed that the march would commence from under the Maha Maya flyover in Noida. The farmers plan to reach the Parliament complex by noon, where they intend to present their demands for reform and fair treatment under the current agricultural laws.
