Hyderabad witnessed intense rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds on Thursday, disrupting daily life and causing widespread waterlogging across the city.

The pre-monsoon showers flooded roads in key areas of Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and nearby regions, leading to long traffic snarls during peak evening hours. While the rainfall brought much-needed relief from the heat, it also resulted in severe inconvenience, especially for commuters and motorists.

Strong winds uprooted trees at several spots and disrupted electricity in affected localities. Emergency teams from the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) were deployed to clear fallen trees and dewater major intersections. Commissioner A.V. Ranganath inspected affected zones personally to oversee the relief work.

One of the major incidents occurred at the historic Charminar, where a piece of lime plaster from one of its four minarets came loose and fell due to the rains. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

In Karmanghat, an under-construction boundary wall collapsed onto an auto-rickshaw, injuring two people. HYDRAA and GHMC teams also rescued two individuals stranded at a temple on the banks of the Musi river.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy took prompt action, directing officials to stay on high alert and initiate immediate relief efforts. He instructed civic bodies, police, GHMC, HYDRAA, and energy officials to coordinate efforts to prevent further disruptions, including power outages and traffic gridlocks.

He also asked district collectors and officers across all departments to remain vigilant as heavy rain and storms continued to affect various districts.

The CM emphasized prompt drainage of water in low-lying areas and ensuring smooth flow of traffic to help commuters reach home safely amid the inclement weather.
