Tragic GPS Misguidance Leads to Fatal Car Accident in Uttar Pradesh
A tragic incident in Uttar Pradesh has highlighted the dangers of relying on GPS navigation systems, as three individuals lost their lives due to a misguided route directed by the device. The victims, two brothers from Bareilly, were en route to Dataganj in Badaun district when their car, a Wagon R, plunged off an under-construction bridge into the Ramganga River.
The incident occurred early in the morning, when the GPS directed the vehicle onto a damaged section of the bridge. Unbeknownst to the driver, the front portion of the bridge had collapsed earlier in the year due to flooding. As a result, the car fell 50 feet into the river. Villagers discovered the wreckage and recovered the bodies of all three victims, who were found dead at the scene.
Circle Officer Ashutosh Shivam confirmed that the collapsed section of the bridge had not been updated in GPS maps, leading to the fatal error. The victims, who were using Google Maps, had no warning of the missing section of the bridge, which was essential for safe travel. The family of the deceased has expressed frustration with the administration, accusing it of neglecting public safety by leaving the bridge incomplete and failing to install adequate barricades or warning signs.
“This incident underscores the lack of proper infrastructure management and safety precautions. The absence of barriers on the incomplete bridge directly contributed to the fatal outcome,” Shivam stated.
The victims have been identified as Vivek Kumar and Amit, both from Farrukhabad, while the identity of the third individual remains under investigation. The family has demanded accountability from the authorities, urging them to take preventive measures to avoid similar accidents in the future and improve safety on such dangerous routes.
