Deadly Dispute Over Song Request Turns Violent at Mira Road New Year’s Party
Mumbai: A New Year’s celebration in Mira Road spiraled into tragedy when a dispute over a song request led to a violent attack that left one man dead and another severely injured. The altercation occurred at a party hosted in a housing complex, with the 23-year-old victim, Raja Pariyar, being assaulted with iron rods and bamboo sticks after refusing to play a specific song requested by some guests. He succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, while his friend, 25-year-old Vipul Rai, remains in critical condition.
The incident occurred in the early hours of December 31, during a New Year’s celebration at a residential complex in Mira Road. According to reports, around 3 am, the accused—Ashish Jadhav, 25, Amit Jadhav, 23, their father Prakash Jadhav, 55, and neighbor Pramod Yadav, 27—became upset when their song request was denied. This led to an argument, which quickly escalated into violence. Ashish Jadhav reportedly struck Pariyar on the head with a wooden stick, while Rai was hit with an iron rod.
Eyewitnesses report that the attack left both men severely injured. They were rushed to KEM Hospital in Parel for treatment, but despite medical efforts, Pariyar could not survive his injuries. Rai remains in critical condition in the ICU.
The police arrested the accused based on video evidence and testimonies from witnesses. They are facing charges of murder and assault under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The authorities are also exploring potential underlying tensions between the families involved, as some residents of the complex have suggested that community tensions between the UP and Maharashtrian groups could have played a role in the escalation.
The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack, including any prior enmity between the individuals involved. As the investigation unfolds, the case has left the local community shaken, highlighting how a seemingly trivial disagreement can escalate into deadly violence.
