The number of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) cases in Pune has surpassed 100, with 101 patients currently receiving treatment. Among them, 16 are on ventilator support. In addition to Pune, a suspected GBS-related death was reported in Solapur, where the victim is believed to have contracted the infection in Pune before traveling.

The Maharashtra health department has also flagged 18 new suspected GBS cases in areas like Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, Pune rural, and nearby districts. The state’s health officials have identified a wide age range among the affected, with patients as young as 9 years old and others in their 70s. Most of the cases are concentrated in areas within Pune Municipal Corporation.

Hospitals began reporting the first GBS cases from regions such as Sinhagad Road, Khadakwasla, Dhayari, and Kirkatwadi. In response to the outbreak, water samples from various Pune locations are being tested for contamination, and stool samples from GBS patients have revealed norovirus and Campylobacter Jejuni bacterial infections. Health officials are closely monitoring the situation, and a central team of experts is set to visit Pune on Monday to assess the ongoing crisis.
