New Delhi: Following his recent announcement of separation from his wife, celebrated music composer AR Rahman took swift legal action on Saturday, issuing a formal notice to those spreading defamatory and “objectionable” content about him and his family.
“Notice to all slanderers from ARR’s Legal Team,” Rahman posted on X, issuing a legal warning that required the removal of harmful content within 24 hours. The notice stressed that failure to comply would lead to prompt legal action. “My client directs those sharing offensive material to take down the objectionable content within the next hour, and no later than 24 hours,” the notice stated.
At 57, Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, left their fans in shock when they recently shared the end of their 29-year marriage in a poignant post on X. Rahman, known for his composed nature, expressed his deep sorrow and reflections on the separation, writing, “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but it seems all things come to an unseen end. Even the throne of God may tremble under the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this devastation, we search for meaning, though the pieces may never fit again.”
The heartfelt message resonated deeply with his followers, many of whom admired the couple’s enduring relationship over the years. Rahman’s words revealed a personal vulnerability rarely seen in the public eye, offering a glimpse into the emotional turmoil he’s navigating. The announcement not only marked the end of a significant chapter in his personal life but also sparked an outpouring of support and empathy from fans, who have admired his music and grace over the decades.
In the days following the announcement, media outlets and fans speculated on the reasons behind the separation, further amplifying the emotional weight of the situation for the family. Rahman, however, has remained focused on his ongoing musical projects, choosing to prioritize his creative work while navigating this personal chapter of his life. Through his art, he continues to inspire, even as he faces one of the most difficult transitions of his life.
The announcement quickly became the subject of intense media speculation, further amplified by bassist Mohini Dey, a close collaborator of Rahman, also revealing her own separation from her husband, Mark Kutsch. This fueled rumors and gossip about relationships within the music industry, further overshadowing Rahman’s personal announcement.
In response, Rahman’s legal team emphasized that the circulation of false and harmful stories not only damaged his professional reputation but also inflicted unnecessary emotional distress on his family. “These individuals are clearly pursuing cheap publicity by inventing damaging and defamatory content about my client,” the notice stated. Rahman’s legal action is viewed as a direct response to what his team has labeled as a deliberate attempt to undermine his personal life.
Rahman and Banu, who tied the knot in 1995, have three children: daughters Khatija and Raheema, and son Ameen. Despite the separation, the family has continued to maintain a relatively private life, focusing on their individual growth and well-being. Rahman, known for his composure and dedication to his craft, has chosen to step back from the media spotlight, channeling his energy into his ongoing musical projects.
As Rahman navigates through this personal chapter, his supporters have rallied behind him, urging the public to respect his privacy and allow him the space to heal. Amid the challenges, Rahman’s commitment to his music and family remains his central focus, as he continues to create and inspire.
