The story of 2024 has been dominated by the phenomenal success of Pushpa 2: The Rule, both on and off the screen. While the film has stirred up some offscreen controversies, including an unfortunate incident at its premiere in Hyderabad, the movie’s box office performance continues to impress, even in its fourth week of release.

As of its fourth week, Pushpa 2 has raked in Rs 37.25 crore in India, with Rs 8.75 crore on Friday, Rs 12.5 crore on Saturday, and Rs 16 crore on Sunday. In comparison, Baby John, which launched during Christmas, earned Rs 28.97 crore over five days, with Rs 12.75 crore from the same weekend. Other major films from the Christmas release period, like Marco (the top Malayalam film) with Rs 8.2 crore and Max (the highest-grossing Kannada film) with Rs 14.95 crore, have yet to match Pushpa 2’s weekend performance. This stark difference in collections showcases the unmatched popularity and reach of Allu Arjun’s film.

Pushpa 2 has shattered multiple records and emerged as the highest-grossing film in India for 2024. It became the first Hindi film to cross Rs 100 crore in its third week, despite being a dubbed version of a Telugu film. This surprising success in the Hindi market has forced introspection within the Hindi film industry, as they were not prepared for the wave Pushpa has created across all regions. Globally, Pushpa 2 has crossed the Rs 1700 crore mark, accumulating Rs 1719.5 crore by the end of Week 3. It is now closing in on the Rs 1800 crore club, with expectations to surpass this milestone around the New Year.

With no major releases scheduled in the near future, Pushpa 2’s success in the Hindi market is likely to continue uninterrupted. Meanwhile, the disappointing performance of Baby John may prompt a broader release for the Hindi-dubbed version of Marco, which is making waves in the South.

Directed by Sukumar, Pushpa 2 stars Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil, and Sreeleela. The film’s success is expected to carry on smoothly until mid-January, when the festive season of Pongal and Sankranti ushers in a new wave of releases.
