A court in Hyderabad granted bail to Telugu actor Allu Arjun on Friday in connection with the tragic stampede that occurred on December 4 at Sandhya Theatre during the premiere of his latest film Pushpa-2. The stampede resulted in the death of a 35-year-old woman and left her eight-year-old son injured.
Under the conditions of his bail, Arjun is required to submit two sureties of ₹50,000 each. He must also report to the investigating officer every Sunday between 10 AM and 1 PM for the next two months, or until charges are filed, whichever comes first. The court ordered the actor to refrain from interfering with the investigation, witnesses, or any police officers involved in the case. He is also prohibited from making any attempts to influence or intimidate witnesses.
Furthermore, the court stipulated that Arjun must inform the court before changing his residential address and is forbidden from leaving the country without prior approval from the court.
Arjun, arrested on December 13, was granted interim bail by the Telangana High Court on December 14, which was set to expire on January 10. He had filed for regular bail on December 27, and appeared virtually before the court.
Following the incident, a case was filed against Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, based on a complaint from the deceased woman’s family. The tragic event has highlighted the dangers of large crowds at film premieres and has raised questions about crowd control and security at such events.
