The Telangana government has announced that Telugu will be a compulsory subject for students from Classes 1 to 10 across all educational boards, including CBSE, ICSE, IB, and state-affiliated institutions, starting from the 2025-26 academic year.

The decision aligns with the full implementation of the Telangana (Compulsory Teaching and Learning of Telugu in Schools) Act, which was originally introduced in 2018 but remained partially enforced under the previous BRS government.

To facilitate a smoother transition, the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government has engaged with school management and decided to begin enforcing the rule for Classes 9 and 10 in non-state board schools from the upcoming academic year.

Additionally, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has approved the use of a simplified Telugu textbook, ‘Vennela’, designed to help non-Telugu-speaking students and those from other states grasp the language more easily.
