The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has given the green light to draft guidelines for conducting Class 10 board exams twice a year starting in 2026, according to a PTI report.

Under the proposed system, students will have the same exam center for both sessions. The first exam phase is scheduled for February 17 to March 6, while the second will take place from May 5 to 20.

The draft norms will be open for public feedback until March 9, after which the final policy will be announced.

Key Changes Under the New System

  • Full Syllabus Exams: Both phases will cover the complete syllabus.
  • Same Exam Center: Students will take both exams at the same location.
  • Increased Exam Fees: Fees will be charged for both attempts at the time of application.
  • No Supplementary Exams: These biannual board exams will replace supplementary exams, eliminating the need for separate re-examinations.

This shift aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims to reduce the pressure of a single high-stakes exam and provide students with multiple opportunities to improve their scores.
