Son Confesses to Brutal Triple Murder of South Delhi Family Over Property Dispute
New Delhi: The Delhi Police have successfully uncovered the chilling details behind the triple murder of a couple and their 23-year-old daughter in the Neb Sarai area of South Delhi, revealing that the crime was committed by their own son, 20-year-old Arjun Kumar. The murders, which took place on his parents’ wedding anniversary, were allegedly driven by deep resentment, humiliation, and a contentious property dispute.
Gruesome Murders Unfold
Arjun Kumar, a second-year student at Delhi University and a trained boxer, is accused of brutally stabbing his father Rajesh Kumar (51), mother Komal Kumar (46), and sister Kavita Kumar (23) while they slept. He then called the police and his uncle, claiming to have found their bodies upon returning from a morning walk at 5:30 a.m. The family had celebrated Rajesh and Komal’s 27th wedding anniversary the previous night.
The police investigation quickly ruled out external intrusion, as CCTV footage showed no signs of forced entry or theft. Discrepancies in Arjun’s account raised suspicions, and after prolonged questioning, he confessed to the heinous crime.
Motive Behind the Murders
According to the Delhi Police, Arjun’s motive stemmed from a history of resentment toward his father, a former military man, who frequently scolded and humiliated him for poor academic performance and failure to complete household chores. Arjun also harbored bitterness over feeling neglected and excluded within the family. His anger escalated when he learned that his father planned to leave the family property to his sister, Kavita.
The police noted that Arjun meticulously planned the murders, selecting December 4—his parents’ wedding anniversary—as the day to carry out the killings. In an attempt to create an alibi, he left the house early for a morning walk before reporting the crime to authorities.
Family and Community Shock
The Kumar family had relocated to Delhi from Haryana 15 years ago in search of better opportunities. Neighbors were stunned by the tragedy, describing the family as warm and approachable. “It’s horrific. I saw the mother and daughter laughing yesterday. Today, they’re gone,” said Himani, a neighbor. Another resident, Anjali, expressed disbelief, stating, “It’s unimaginable that something so tragic could happen.”
Political Response
The gruesome crime has sparked political debate, with Delhi Chief Minister Atishi blaming the central government, which oversees the Delhi Police, for the deteriorating law and order situation in the capital. “Murders are happening in broad daylight, bullets are being fired, and drugs are openly sold. The Centre has failed in its responsibility to ensure safety in Delhi,” Atishi posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also voiced his concerns, calling the incident “extremely painful and frightening” and accusing the central government of allowing criminals to roam freely.
Security and Mental Health Concerns
This horrific murder has sent shockwaves through the neighborhood, raising urgent questions about the safety of Delhi’s residents. Beyond the immediate security concerns, the case highlights the importance of addressing mental health issues and the need for stronger familial support systems to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
